The maintenance of order in France is astonished by the violence it displays, even though other ways exist to regulate demonstrations. There is undoubtedly a deviation here, but also a sign that political debates have less and less space within our institutions.
Jrmie Gauthier is a lecturer in sociology at the University of Strasbourg, a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory in Cultural Studies (LinCS) and an associate researcher at the Marc Bloch Center in Berlin.
He co-edited with Fabien Jobard the volume Police, sensitive issues in the Puf/ Vie des ides collection, 2018. He has also published several articles and book chapters on police issues in France and Germany.
