Sapling Community

We are 4 adults and 2 children living on 3.5 acres of land. We are surrounded by woods and agricultural land owned by other communities and ex-community members.

We hold egalitarianism, environmentalism, cooperative living and resource sharing as core values.

As a manifestation of our values, we plan to retrofit our recently-purchased mainstream manufactured house and recently denuded landscape into an energy efficient, low carbon footprint homestead over-flowing with beautiful gardens, happy animals, and awesome communards.

We believe this reflects as important a concern as preserving the environment: restoring what has already been destroyed and altering what already has been built to fit a sustainable paradigm.

Our primary business is Garden Medicinals and Culinaries, selling heirloom, open-pollinated and non-GMO herb seeds.

As part of our mission we are especially interested in cultivating native endangered woodland medicinals such as American Ginseng, Black Cohosh, Blue Cohosh,False Unicorn, Goldenseal and many others.

Here's What We're Starting With

When it comes to eco-retrofits, we here at Sapling have the rare privilege to be starting with the blankest of blank slates: This is Sapling House. No, really, This is it. And yes, it's the most generic, mainstream double-wide manufactured home anybody could possibly imagine. Built on a trailer chassis, it was hauled here onto our 3.5 acres and plopped down on cinderblock piers, with brick skirting thrown up around it. You will see thousands upon thousands of identical houses just like t [...]
