How to measure poverty?

Official statistics constitute an essential benchmark for debate and information in the service of society. Fabrice Lenglart, Director General of INSEE, shows its contribution to the measurement of poverty and the analysis of its recent trends.

Fabrice Lenglart is a former student of the École Polytechnique and theENSAE. He also holds a master’s degree in philosophy obtained at Paris I and the aggregation of mathematics.

After holding various positions within public statistics, and also working at the General Directorate of the Treasury between 1999 and 2005, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner General of France Stratégie in 2016 and in 2019 general rapporteur for the reform of universal income. From 2020 to 2025 he directs the DREES. He has been Director General of INSEE since June 30, 2025.
