Does globalization generate inequalities? ? For François Bourguignon, it has certainly contributed to reducing inequalities between countries, by allowing a certain number of developing countries to converge towards the standard of living of developed countries. ; but it also seems to have contributed to the rapid and recent increase in inequalities within each country. This latter dynamic is not inevitable, however, and can be faced by States, without having to resort to the dangerous weapon of protectionism.
Former chief economist of the World Bank, François Bourguignon is currently director of studies at theEHESS and director of the Paris School of Economics. He is one of the most eminent international specialists in issues related to economic development.
